It’s Lobstermania in Maine

Attention lobster lovers: Throw your bib on and head to Maine!

Sure, it’s not breaking news since the Pine Tree State is already known as a lobster haven. But, thanks to Governor Paul LePage, August was proclaimed “Maine Lobster Month” to celebrate the state’s record harvest levels over the past few years. Events and promotions have been planned including the month-long “Maine Lobster Lover Celebration” where you can enter to win gifts and prizes at participating restaurants, seafood markets and grocery stores as well as the Lobsterpalooza Harvest Celebration which features a week of all things lobster in the Penobscot region.

If you’re thinking about packing up your lobster forks and crackers and heading to Maine, consider making a weekend getaway out of it. Not only will you get to feast on the seafood delicacy to your heart’s (or stomach’s) content, but you also could learn about harvesting and how they’re prepared for market. With so many ways to celebrate, let the innkeepers at a Maine bed and breakfast be your guide.

Feel like going cruising? At Camden Harbour Inn located in Camden, you’ll start off the day with an a la carte champagne breakfast of Lobster Eggs Benedict before taking in the sights and sounds of Maine from aboard a cruise on the Lively Lady Too. End the day with a 4-course lobster-tasting dinner at the inn’s award-winning restaurant. Romance is in the air at the Captain Lord Mansion, a Kennebunkport bed and breakfast. You and your sweetheart can grab bikes and tour the area or hit the open waters for a day of sailing under the sun. Afterwards, find an intimate, shady spot where you can lay out your complimentary lobster roll picnic lunch.

Experience lobster from the trap to your lap when you stay at the Berry Manor located in Rockland. You’ll set out for an adventure on the Capt. Jack lobster boat where you’ll learn everything you need to know about lobsters and even get to set a trap yourself! Follow your water adventure with a lobster pound featuring a behind-the-scenes look at how they’re prepared for market. When you head back to your room and call it a night, a delicious lobster-shaped chocolate turndown will bring a sweet end to your day.

You could head to Maine and enjoy lobster anytime, or make your way this month for the “Maine Lobster Lover Celebration.” Either way, make it a special getaway by waking up at a B&B and exploring all Maine has to offer, which you can find on our “Make Your Way to Maine” Pinterest board!
