Brewing Up a Fall Adventure

Brewing Up a Fall Adventure

If a fall adventure is what you’re looking for, you can’t beat Maine. The majority of the state already is blanketed in a sea of orange, red and gold and its innumerable orchards are brimming with juicy apples, plump pumpkins and a variety of gourds. And, even if you missed the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta held at the beginning of the month, you can look forward to events such as the Caribou Arts & Crafts Festival taking place from October 27 – 28 and the 19th annual Maine Brewers Festival being held from November 2 – 3.

Speaking of beer, have you ever sipped your way through the Maine Beer Trail? It showcases 25 of the top brewers and pubs stretching from the southwest section of the state and continuing east to the mid-coast where it crosses Penobscot River towards Bar Harbor before heading north. There are also plenty of Maine bed and breakfasts along the trail, which means you can mix a good bit of R&R with your beer-tasting weekend.

Centrally located and close to a majority of the breweries and pubs on the map is the historic White Cedar Inn located in Freeport. The innkeepers will get your day started off right with a scrumptious breakfast served in their glorious sunroom. Afterwards, you can begin your tour of seasonal ales at Gritty McDuff’s and leave with a custom 22 oz. bottle of brew. Are you interested in learning about the brewing process? The Atlantic Brewing Co. located in Bar Harbor offers an introduction to the microbrewing process and free samples of everything they’re crafting. Only a short walk from the brewery is the Aysgarth Station Bed & Breakfast which is conveniently located near the downtown area. Their wide deck provides a comfortable spot for viewing the brilliant foliage while enjoying a warm cup of tea.

Maine is a wondrous destination not only in the fall but all year round. Our “Makin’ Your Way to Maine” Pinterest board has some fun ideas for getaways including visits to lighthouses, windjammer cruises and, of course, eating lots of lobster!
