When people think of American wine regions, California, New York and Oregon may all come to mind, but this is a big country, remember? With 50 united states, there is much more wine to find – you just have to know where to look. This month our eyes are fixed on the Buckeye State since two of our inns have the goods on what wine-loving guests want, and there is no better time than Ohio Wine Month to tell the tale.
The Villas at Gervasi Vineyards

The Villas at Gervasi Vineyard are Tuscan-inspired luxurious suites conveniently located in Canton. This boutique inn has 24 suites designed with a touch of Italy and Tuscany in mind. Each room has its own fireplace, spacious bath with heated towel bars and a walk-in shower, luxury linens, flat-screen TVs and refrigerator. In addition to the Villas, the Gervasi Vineyard Farmhouse is also available for overnight stays and consists of 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, sitting room, study, dining room, full modern kitchen, and other features. Across the spring-fed lake, guests can discover the Vineyard, Marketplace, Bistro, Pavilion, the Crush House (a second full service cafe/wine bar with full service restaurant and bar) and the Piazza (large casual alfresco dining option). Also on the estate grounds is the Villa Grande Event Facility that includes a ballroom, executive board rooms, an event lobby, and conference or event seating for up to 144 guests. The Cucina is another part of the Gervasi estate and is a culinary and wine education center that offers wine or culinary experiences guests can incorporate into their stays or special events.
Signature wines: Truscano (Sangiovese Super Tuscan-style blend for reds) and Lucello (Pinot Grigio). Both of grapes come from outside sources. However, later this year in August, the winery will release the first two wines from their own vineyard. They are Aromella and Frontenac Gris, and both are unique hybrids for the climate.

The Lakehouse Inn & Winery in beautiful Geneva-on-the-Lake offers 5 traditional B&B rooms and 3 suites (all with private baths), 3 vacation rental cottages, and the luxurious Beach House, for the ultimate lakefront experience. The property features a spa with a variety of rejuvenating treatments, and the winery provides tastings. There is also a full-service restaurant on-site that features wood-fired farm to table cuisine. The inn is located 50 miles east of Cleveland and 50 miles west of Erie, PA. The Geneva Marina at Geneva State Park is also within walking distance, plus guests can charter a boat to experience Ohio’s spectacular Northeastern shoreline, take a leisurely cruise or a fishing trip in the waters known as “the walleye capital of the world.” Other area attractions include the Metroparks biking/walking trails, the Spire Institute (indoor/outdoor sports complex), historic Ashtabula Harbor, and Ashtabula County’s famous covered bridges.
