San Antonio Texas
Located just 80 miles to the southwest on I-35, the Alamo City is chock-full of things to see and do. In fact, you could easily plan several trips. At the top of the list is the Alamo itself – the Shrine of Texas, where a small band of “Texicans” held off a Mexican army for 13 days. Next on the list is the famous Riverwalk. You can spend an entire day on the enchanting walk and waterway that winds along the banks of the San Antonio River beneath the streets of downtown. You’ll find shops, restaurants, and leisurely river rides. SeaWorld San Antonio and Six Flags Siesta are also major attractions. Luckenbauch & Fredericksburg Texas
Yep, this is the place made famous in a song by Willie and Waylon and the boys. This home of Texas Outlaw Music is 72 miles due west from Austin. The town has an official population of just 3, but its music heritage attracts tons of visitors. Check out the old General Store and Dance Hall. A short 13 minute drive through Hill Country will bring you to Fredericksburg. Spend the night in on 26 acres in one of the handcrafted Swiss log cabins at Barons Creekside Inn.

Johnson City Texas
First, check out the modest birthplace of Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th president of the United States. Then drive the short distance to his ranch home, known in the 1960s as the Texas White House. This is where he entertained heads of state on the banks of the Pedernales River. You can tour the state park by car. Johnson and family members are buried at the site. Johnson City is also home to The Crossroads Inn, where the Texas Hill Country meets Wine Country.

Gruene & New Braunfels Texas
Pronounced “green,” this former German settlement is a historic town within New Braunfels. Its dance hall, the oldest in Texas, has attracted a massive list of entertainers, from George Strait to Lyle Lovett to The Chicks. Part of John Travolta’s movie “Michael” was filmed here. Gristmill Restaurant is located in a century-old cotton mill and is noted for its outdoor dining on the banks of the Guadalupe River. Lake Granbury Texas
The town of Granbury and the surrounding area offer numerous outdoor activities and adventures. Rent a jet ski, boat or kayak and enjoy the lake for the day. Cat Springs Texas
If you really want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, head for Cat Spring, less than two hours to the southeast. The community is no longer incorporated, but is still home to about 75 people, a post office, a general store, and the BlissWood Bed and Breakfast a much desired romantic Texas bed and breakfast. Who can resist an attraction called the Mystical Forest?
