Inspired by a couple of very impressive bed and breakfasts they stayed in on their honeymoon, Orquida and Dan Ingraham quit their jobs and moved to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to try their hand at innkeeping themselves. Today, they run the Afton Mountain Bed and Breakfast, housed in a beautiful old home that offers ample opportunity to unwind, relax and enjoy the area.
Five inviting guest rooms await your stay, each with air conditioning, ceiling fans and hair dryers. The home has high-speed WiFi available and internet radio in each guest room. If you find yourself needing to get online but didn’t bring your laptop, the inn has a computer in the living room available for guest use. Each guest room offers double occupancy and private bathrooms with showers. The Mornington Room adds a two-person jetted tub.
The property has many features and amenities that will make your stay enjoyable. Visit between Memorial Day and Labor Day and you’ll be able to enjoy the 40-foot outdoor swimming pool. There are plenty of poolside lounge chairs for relaxing by the pool as well as patio tables with umbrellas if you’d like to enjoy a meal al fresco.
Numerous porches set the stage for relaxation. Rock your worries away while enjoying a glass of wine in a comfy rocking chair on the front porch, or enjoy wildlife watching with views of the mountain from the upper floor on the back of the house. There’s a gas fireplace in the dining room, a selection of popular board games to borrow and a guest television with several popular streaming services.
Breakfast and Refreshments
Hot coffee and tea are available from 7:15 each morning on the upstairs server to help you get started before you even come down for breakfast. At Afton Mountain Bed and Breakfast, the breakfast certainly won’t disappoint. The owners source local ingredients whenever possible and craft a delicious and filling menu. You’ll start with a fruit dish made from whatever is in season. The main course changes frequently but is always delicious. You can expect whimsical comfort food with a southern touch. Past dishes have included Sun-Dried Tomato Frittatas, Walnut Oat Waffles and Apricot Stuffed French Toast. For those who don’t have a big appetite in the morning, there are two other breakfast alternatives that include lighter fare and a discounted room rate.
Refreshments at Afton Mountain don’t end at breakfast. After a morning full of exploring, you’ll be delighted to find a plate of yummy homemade cookies and a selection of hot and cold drinks – the perfect afternoon treat!
