Innkeepers Tom von Zabern and Billy Brown purchased the Palmer House Inn in 2018. They moved from their long-time home of Cambridge, MA to live onsite and welcome guests to their historic Queen Anne Victorian home. Built in 1901, the elegant home is a highlight of Falmouth’s historic district and a delightful place to come home to after spending the day exploring Cape Cod.
Modern Amenities in a Historical Setting
Even though the Palmer House has been updated to have all of the modern amenities you’d expert at a seaside holiday home, the home retains its historic character and the exquisite craftsmanship of a bygone era. The stately Victorian has been carefully preserved to protect the craftsmanship of the Gilded age, but has been brought into the current century as well with the addition of things like WiFi and flat screen smart TVs. Each room has luxury firm beds and several have fireplaces and jetted tubs. Premium rooms add coffee makers, miniature refrigerators and sitting areas.
Take your pick from 12 comfortable bedrooms in the main house or four rooms in the historic carriage house. There’s also a cozy 3-bedroom cottage tucked away in a hidden garden that is available for booking. The rooms vary in size and cost, providing a range of options to suit many different types of travelers. As a whimsical touch, each room has been named after a famous writer from New England. Inside you’ll find a volume or two by the room’s namesake poet or author.
Artfully decorated with Victorian antiques and Cape Cod inspired decor, the rooms are comfortable and relaxing, making for a nice place to base yourself for your Falmouth vacation.
Wake Up to Fresh Homemade Breakfast
Each morning of your stay, you’ll start your day with a delicious home-cooked breakfast. The meal begins with a cup of the Palmer House’s custom coffee blend, tea or juice and features fruit, a fresh made bakery item and a main course. Dishes benefit from seasonal fresh herbs grown right on-site in the Palmer House gardens. Guests can choose to dine indoors at one of two dining rooms or on the outdoor deck if weather permits.

The home is perfectly situated on a large, well landscaped lot right in the middle of Falmouth’s immaculate Historic District. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into history as you stroll past the Village Green and Congregational Church. The small downtown has developed into an attraction all its own with upscale shopping, spas for relaxing, and a score of delicious restaurants to try out when you’re feeling peckish. Local confectioners offer up ice cream, gourmet candy and chocolates in abundance so your sweet tooth will be fully satisfied. Gorgeous Surf Drive Beach is within walking distance. In the summer it offers warm water and gentle, easy waves, but the views are fantastic all year round.
In addition to enjoying the beach, the historical district and eating and shopping to your heart’s content, Falmouth offers a number of entertainment options. Theatre and opera performances, golfing, biking, yachting and fishing top the list. Of course, a ferry ride out to Martha’s Vineyard will never disappoint.
