Tour the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife Museum
The Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House was built by Doctor John Stiles Holliday in 1855. It has strong ties to the famous gunslinger Doc Holliday of the Ok Corral fame. In addition, it is associated with Georgia Governor Hugh Manson Dorsey and Margaret Mitchell. During the 1850s, the house was the Fayetteville Academy dormitory which was acknowledged in Gone with the Wind. In February 1861, the famous Confederate flag was sewn for the Fayette Rifle Grays which was the first company formed in the county for the Confederacy.
Robert E. Lee Fife and his son Cecil were the home’s last owners up until 1954. Now the location is a museum you can tour to learn about local history.
Within four miles of the museum, you’ll find eight historical markers that you can read to learn more about the area’s illustrious past.
