Go Green for St. Patrick's Day!

Go Green for St. Patrick’s Day!

Are you suddenly feeling lucky? If not, you might be when St. Patrick’s Day arrives tomorrow! Break out your best green attire, attend a parade and then prepare a traditional Irish meal to celebrate the special occasion. Did you know the color associated with St. Patrick’s Day started off as blue? It’s true. The term “wearing of the green” was derived from the idea of putting a shamrock onto your clothing, which is why green is now associated with the celebration.

Aside from the color green, there are other long-held traditions associated with St. Patrick’s Day. And, while traveling to Ireland would be the ideal way to experience them, there are a couple of Irish bed and breakfasts who could get you in the spirit. If one day of revelry isn’t enough, check out The Irish Inn, located in Ozark, IL. From Irish music to traditional tales around the fireplace, Innkeeper’s Brian and Lynn McCreery will be showing their pride the entire month of March. Your taste buds will be tantalized by a feast of their own traditional recipes for their Downpatrick Corned Beef and Scots Irish Stew; and, each morning you’ll be greeted by a full Irish breakfast.
