A Horse Friendly Pennsylvania Bed and Breakfast | Pheasant Field B&B

Pennsylvania Bed and Breakfast- Pheasant Field B&B

Among the rolling hills of middle Pennsylvania, tucked away on a quiet, wooded road is Pheasant Field Bed and Breakfast. This B&B in Carlisle, PA has country elegance written all over it. Located just a few minutes’ drive from downtown Carlisle, this historic brick farmhouse is the ideal place for those looking for a quiet escape, or a change from the boring hotels and motels that dot the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

A Beautiful Carlisle, PA Bed and Breakfast with a History

The federal-style red brick farmhouse was built by General John Miller between 1800 and 1820. Throughout its history, it was home to a family farm, a dairy farm, and a horse breeding facility. Most notably, it was a shelter for runaway slaves, serving as a safe place during the Underground Railroad. Nowadays, it serves as a beautiful Carlisle bed and breakfast for turnpike commuters and adventurous travelers.

This 200-year-old inn has been lovingly maintained with frequent updates. Historic details have been kept throughout adding to the early American setting. Some windows still have that “wavy” effect, and the original wide plank floorboards still remain throughout the house.

Horse Friendly Bed and Breakfast

There are plenty of dog and pet-friendly b&bs to choose from across the country, but if you’re traveling with your horses, Pheasant Field Inn has a “horse hotel“- overnight boarding to be precise, but “horse hotel” sounds more fun. The horse areas on the property are well maintained with water buckets in all the stalls, and clean sawdust floors. If you are a guest of the inn and interested in boarding your horses overnight, a $40 charge will be applied.

Meet Your Innkeepers, Kit and Robin Stauffer

Both Kit and Robin Stauffer are Pennsylvanian natives. Kitty grew up in Schuylkill County and Robin in Bucks County. After Robin’s 26-year career in the U.S. Army, they returned to Pennsylvania. During family vacations, they frequently stayed in bed and breakfasts and so the love of being an innkeeper was born. In 2006, the Stauffer’s rescued a lab-mix named “Rehab”, became the official greeter at this B&B in Carlisle, PA.
