Lee Bed and Breakfast – Devonfield Inn

Tucked away in the picturesque Berkshire Mountains is a luxurious retreat unlike anything you’ve seen before. Offering plenty of old-world charm, comfortable amenities, and down-to-earth opulence, the Devonfield Inn is a fantastic choice for those looking to unwind in style.

This western Massachusetts bed and breakfast sprawls across 32 acres of land, but don’t let that immense size fool you: the Devonfield is only a short drive from local attractions and points of interest such as The Mount, which was famed author Edith Wharton’s Home; the Berkshire Botanical Garden; and the peaceful Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. In the summer, watch an outdoor performance at Jacob’s Pillow, or head up north and go skiing in Bousquet during chillier months.

The Devonfield Inn has something for everyone: there are five standard rooms and five suites in the main building. For those who want the ultimate in peace and relaxation, Devonfield invites you to stay at their crown jewel: The Queen’s Cottage. This standalone cottage features a private deck, a kitchen and living room, and a jetted tub — it’s perfect for romantic getaways or longer staycations. Don’t forget to sample the complimentary imported Cognac and locally handmade chocolates!

We particularly love the Lila Ann room, which is full of sweet touches, such as plush bedding, a retro sink, and a lighted makeup mirror, that harkens to the golden era of bed and breakfasts. The Roosevelt Suite is another stunner, with its wood-burning fireplace, cozy window nook, and an inviting whirlpool spa tub nestled into the corner. The suite also features a spacious separate sitting room that’s perfect for relaxing and reading the latest page-turner or winding down with a delectable glass of wine.

In fact, did you know that the Berkshires has its own wine trail? Thanks to its fertile ground and temperate air, there are more than half a dozen wineries, breweries, and tasting rooms, with plenty more cropping up every year. Take a day trip to the long-standing Furnace Brook Winery, try a glass of pumpkin wine at Les Trois Emme Vineyard & Winery, or take a bespoke wine tasting tour at Balderdash Cellars.

If you’re staying at the inn on a Saturday night, definitely don’t miss the event of the week: the Late Night Devonfield Inn Dessert Bar and piano sing-alongs! As you enter the room, homemade desserts, trifles, and pies are already waiting for you. Mix and mingle with other guests as you listen to melodic tunes played by the innkeepers on the piano — and even join along!

Although they became innkeepers of the Devonfield Inn only recently, Doug and Jim have already proven to be gracious hosts. Doug, who had a head start in hospitality when he ran his family’s motel business in Montauk, received a degree in Hospitality Management and managed hotels across the country. Jim, thanks to his years working in marketing and showbiz, knows how to entertain guests: he’s the one who bakes all of the delicious homemade pastries!

The Devonfield Inn is called “A Destination Worth a Visit,” and we couldn’t agree more: add this bed and breakfast to your must-do list when visiting the Berkshires.
