Leavenworth, WA Bed and Breakfast | Obertal Inn

Looking for a weekend getaway to Germany without crossing the border? It’s possible — and we have just the place! Obertal Inn is a charming Bavarian-style bed and breakfast in Leavenworth, Washington. In fact, the entire village is known as ‘little Germany’ thanks to the unique architecture and cozy atmosphere that can only be found here.

Leavenworth is a worthy candidate for a weekend getaway — it’s only 2.5 hours away from Seattle! — or to spend an entire week. The city especially comes alive during the holidays, as it turns into a real-life winter wonderland.

About Obertal Inn in Leavenworth

Obertal Inn may look like a traditional Bauernhaus building, but it actually got its start as a bed and breakfast in 1992. The 27-room inn is conveniently located in the center of Leavenworth and just steps away from the village’s main attractions.

That’s not all: thanks to its location, guests enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding Cascade Mountains. No wonder the word obertal means ‘top of the valley’ in German.

However, what really makes Obertal Inn stand out is the owner. Hans Mulders certainly knows how to create a  warm and inviting atmosphere for all of his guests — he’s been in the hospitality business for more than 30 years!

Planning to enjoy Leavenworth with your furry friend? Obertal Inn is pet friendly.

Rooms at the Obertal Inn

Although Leavenworth may be famous for its old world Bavarian architecture, the rooms at Obertal Inn are quite the opposite. Each room is appointed with modern amenities like flat screen TVs, high speed internet, microwaves, and more.

To really get into the Bavarian atmosphere, we highly recommend booking a Balcony Fireplace King room. This spacious room has the best in the house: a panoramic scene of downtown Leavenworth!

Of course, what would a bed and breakfast be without the breakfast part? Besides the usual breakfast fare, Obertal Inn offers a few uniquely German dishes. Try the delicious homemade sausage with gravy and biscuits or a sumptuous stack of waffles with a cinnamon apple compote — you’ll be transported to Bavaria at first bite!

Last but certainly not least, don’t forget to try Obertal Inn’s famous apple strudel. They’re baked fresh every day and delivered straight to your room.

What to do in Leavenworth

Just like any authentic German village, Leavenworth has plenty of activities for any season.

In the summer, more than 30 wineries around the area open their doors for guests to come and try the crisp taste of Washington wines. Adventurous travelers can enjoy a day out on the Wenatchee River with a whitewater rafting trip or go hiking, horseback riding, or just strolling around one of the numerous parks in the area.

To really get into the spirit, guests can visit Rhein House (just a two-minute walk from Obertal Inn!) and enjoy dining at the outdoor terrace. This authentic German restaurant was inspired by Oktoberfest and has its own version of the famous festival.

When winter rolls around, Leavenworth is transformed into Christmastown: guests are treated to more than half a million lights across the city, with gingerbread houses, an advent calendar, and carolers to add to the atmosphere! Finish off your trip with a visit to the Nutcracker Museum, which is a must-see unique to Leavenworth.
